Merry Making – Day 5

Merry-Making---Day-5

My final piece of homework for the Merry Making class.

Again, there were lots of wonderful instructions.  Day 5 was all about working with watercolor.  I chose to play with the ideas from Debby Hughes.  Oh, that girl is so amazing!

As always, I sort of go my own way, but used some of her fantastic ideas.

There are so many thoughts popping around in my head for cards, thanks to this class.  And that’s a good thing because before you know it those Christmas cards need to get in the mail!

Back soon with more my sweet friends…

Merry Making – Day 2

Merry-Making---Day-2

Hello again!

Another fabulous day of tutorials from the ladies over at On-Line Card Classes.  Loved Shari Carroll’s background technique, so that’s the one I went with today.

A mix of old and new products today.  I picked up this Stampendous poinsettia last week and think there are lots of ways to use it.  Today it was heat embossed in Liquid Platinum and then I added some bling from an old Stampendous Frantage Encrusted Jewel Kit.  There’s a lot of shine and shimmer that got lost in my photography, so you’ll just have to trust me on that “wink”.

I used a new bit of Tim Holtz tissue tape for the sentiment.  Love how the colors show through it!

That’s it from me for today…back soon with more my friends!

Go Bold or Go Home

No need to explain that title is there?

I’m playing along with a few challenges today.

My background is a piece of designer paper that’s been pulled through some Distress Paints, dried, distressed, stenciled, and then I added more gold using some foil sheets.  As I’ve said lately, I’m a little totally obsessed with gold.

The butterfly has been painted with gold paint and then I added mica flakes, glass glitter, and some beads.  The same treatment was used on the flowers and the chipboard sentiment. Some die cut leaves in black and Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker complete the card.

Here’s a close up of the detail I added to the butterfly:

Here’s what I used:
Paper:  unknown designer paper and Gina K. Black
Ink:  Versamark
Stamps:  none
All the other stuff:  Distress Paints, Tim Holtz Schoolhouse stencil, Ranger Sticky Embossing Powder, Tim Holtz distressing tool, misc. chipboard circle, Penny Black Holly & Berries die, Ranger Transfer Foil Sheets, Finnabair Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint, Finnabair Glass Glitter, Finnabair Mica Flakes, Finnabair Glass Beads, heavy gel medium, foam tape, Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker, misc. flowers, Distress Spray Stains

Challenges entered:
Frilly and Funkie:  Hip to be Square using brighter colors from the hippie era
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge:  anything goes – they are showcasing Ranger Products

Bloom

More play time 🙂

I’ve stenciled just the bottom of the card with Finnabair’s Chicken Wire stencil and some navy ink. Next I die cut the leaves from Hero Arts…again in navy.
The floral image is called French Marigold Large and it’s from STAMPlorations.  It was stamped in Cobalt Archival ink and then just loosely watercolored with Distress Inks.  Then it was fussy cut and popped up on some foam tape.
The sentiment is from STAMPlorations Hope Blooms…I love the funky curly cues around the”L”! My usual smattering of sequins and done!

Create Art Every Day

Time to share another one of my cards from my time on the Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen.

It has layers of paper, stamping, translucent embossing paste, acrylic paints, beads and just about everything but the kitchen sink :).  And to finish it off…some Tim stuff.

Of course, if there’s time, who doesn’t want to create art every day?

On the Wings of Love

I’ve had this idea in my head for awhile and finally created it.  I adore all things Prima…so I’ve been adding to my collection over several months.  It was time to pull a bunch of things out and actually do something other than collect!  It’s only called hoarding if you don’t use it right?  LOL

I was inspired by Finnabair’s Art Recipe:  Timeless Patina.  Oh, that girl is amazing!  I was fortunate enough to spend two days taking her classes!  She was so inspiring, a sweet person and a wonderful instructor.

The project starts out with the Prima bike, that I added some random bits of Graphite Texture Paste to. When that was dry, I used my Fluttering Flowers stencil with more of the texture paste.  Then I started adding my elements…Sandra Evertson Archival Cast Chivalry (wings), and Flaming Hearts. Then came lots of Prima Mechanicals, beads, flowers…all added with Art Basics Modelling Paste. (Finn’s hint to use a glue gun to attach the pieces before using the paste is pure genius.)

Once that was all dry, I coated everything in Art Basics Heavy Black Gesso.  Then the magic began…adding the shimmer and color.  First I used two shades of Inka Gold to highlight some areas. Then using some Art Basics Soft Matte Gel, I added Art Ingredients Glass Beads, followed by some glitter.

Here’s a close up:

Such a fun project to make!  Might be my favorite piece to this point.  But it is so near and dear to my heart as it’s a piece to commemorate our 40th wedding anniversary.  If you look closely you’ll see the number 40 in a couple of places.

I’m entering it in the Mixed Media Place Creative Gym #11 as I’ve used Finnabair’s Art Recipe: Timeless Patina as my inspiration.
