Mosaic Dragonfly

Just playing today; this tag is for a couple of challenges…

I’ve drawn some inspiration from the April 2016 Tim’s Tag and as usual, it doesn’t look anything like his, but that’s the point…it’s about being inspired right?  Also, I’m all about Earth Day 365 days of the year. So when I saw the current Anything But Cute Earth Day Challenge, I used that as my theme for my tag.

Tim has used his new Distress Paper Mosaic Kit, which I don’t have, so I used his directions from his March 2012 tag to create my mosaic dragonfly.  Instead of cutting up some designer paper, I dragged some watercolor paper through some Distress Inks and used that. Then it was topped with Glossy Accents for a faux tile look.

And, I used a totally different technique for my woodgrain background. It’s made with a piece of woodgrain cardstock (like Tim’s), but I used Distress Crayons and Distress Inks to create it.  Did I tell you I LOVE my Distress Crayons?  I rubbed several colors of the Distress Crayons into the cardstock, inked it with Distress Inks and splattered it with Black Soot Distress Paint.  I also drew some lines with a Distress Marker to imitate a wood floor or perhaps wood paneling.  Pretty happy with how it turned out 🙂

My “grout” was made with a matte embossing powder that I colored with some alcohol ink as I didn’t have the “cement” embossing powder that Tim used.

Again, I’ve used a #10 manila tag simply because of the size of the dragonfly die and all the “stuff” I wanted to add.  The tail of the dragonfly is made with clear rhinestones, that I’ve colored with Copic markers.  Lots of shades of blue and green:

Here’s what I used:
Paper:  watercolor and woodgrain cardstock
Ink:  Distress Inks
Stamps:  not a one
All the other stuff:  #10 manila tag, grunge board, Alterations Layered Dragonfly die, misc. rhinestones, Copic markers, Distress Crayons, Distress Paint, Distress Marker, Idea-ology Linen Ribbon, Idea-ology Souvenir Adornments, Remnant Rubs, Small Talk Stickers, Flashcards, Pocket Cards, WOW matte embossing powder, alcohol ink, Glossy Accents, splatter brush

Theirs Was An Old Love

My Tim’s Tag for the month of February.  It looks nothing like his really, but that’s ok!  It’s where my mind and my hands took me.

He used the monoprint technique for his background and so did I with my Burlap stencil, but it’s very subtle.

After choosing my picture from the Photobooth pack, it made me think of old love, vintage love, someone who’s been together forever, so that’s where I headed.

The heart was made with a Pocket Card and the Heart Wings die, then I folded it in half and cut it down to a smaller heart.  It’s been crumpled, inked and distressed.  The little “heart” token has been partially covered with Tarnished Bronze Distress Paint and heat set to look like something old.

I dyed some seam binding with the same colors used throughout the tag…Victorian Velvet and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks.  I’ve also used some Small Talk stickers like he used on his tag. And heat embossed the background in gold using the Love Struck set.

Here’s Tim’s tag for the month:

ARTplorations Stencil Blog Hop – Day 1

We’ve got a Stencil Blog Hop happening this week!  Are you up for a blog hop with prizes?  Click on the link to see what rest of the team has in store for you and get all the deets on how to enter.
The background for my tag was made by stamping some of the STAMPlorations Mixed Media Elements stamps with archival ink and then smooshing my tag through some Distress Paints.  Once that was dry, I used translucent embossing paste and the ARTplorations Holly Background stencil. When I lifted the stencil off the tag, I quickly added lots of glass glitter and tapped off the excess.  ou won’t get real definition with a chunky glitter and a stencil…but still love the look!

Easy peasy sentiment with some washi tape and the only embellie is some hand-dyed seam binding to match the tag.

  • FIVE (5) winners will receive their choice of ARTplorations stencil (standard size – 5×7). Winners will be randomly drawn from all comments left on the designers’ blogs.
  • ONE (1) winner will receive a $15 gift certificate OR her choice of 2 ARTplorations stencils (standard size – 5×7). Winners will be randomly drawn from comments left on the STAMPlorations blog.

Extra prizes for those who participate in the Flash Stencil Project Linky Party and link up by December 13:

  • TWO (2) winners whose projects feature stencils (any brand) will each receive their choice of one (1) ARTplorations stencil (standard size – 5×7)
  • ONE (1) winner whose project features an ARTplorations stencil will receive her choice of three (3) ARTplorations stencils (standard size – 5×7) OR a $15 gift certificate to the shop.

Noel Reindeer – OLCCC Reminder

Just a quick reminder – you’ve still got another week to join the One Layer Christmas card challenge:

The challenges are always one layer, always anything goes and this week’s optional twist is “reindeer”. As always, the challenge is to create a one layer card only and if you use the optional twist, you’ll be entered into the monthly random drawing. Each card = one entry, so feel free to enter often to increase your chances to win.

I’m all about quick and easy Christmas cards and this was done in under 10 minutes.  Just added paint to my stamps – the reindeer was done in two colors, while the sentiment was just one color.  Then a cute little red nose with Stickles and done!  How’s that for fast?
