May Mixed Media Challenge and Stencil Sunday

Hello!  I’m so happy to be back with another Stencil Sunday project and mixed media challenge.

Would love to have you join us for the mixed media challenge this month.  As always, it’s an anything goes challenge that must be a mixed media piece…tags, art journal pages, home decor, etc….anything but a card.  The winner will receive a $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or 2 ARTplorations stencils. And the top picks receive an ARTplorations stencil of their choice.

Playing in my small art journal again.  After covering the page in gesso, I stamped several images from Mixed Media Elements around the edges in Cobalt Archival Ink. Next came some light modelling paste through my Retro Circles stencil.  When that was dry, I blended two shades of Distress Crayons on the page.  Then I added some Distress Ink through my Square Links stencil.
The sentiment from Subway Art Builders Create was stamped on some Tim Holtz Tissue Wrap and adhered to the page with a matte medium.  My final step was to smudge some Stabilo pencil randomly around the edges and blend with water.

Cannot wait to see what you make!  Just a gentle reminder…this is not a card challenge…it’s anything BUT a card.  To ensure that you’re eligible for the prizes each month, simply create a mixed media project, add a link to the challenge and show the challenge graphic…it’s as easy as that!

Back soon with more my sweet friends…

Stencil Sunday – The Realist Adjusts the Sails

Hello, my stamping lovelies!  I’m back with another Stencil Sunday Project.

When I first saw the new Anchors Away stencil my heart went pitter patter as I knew I wanted to use it with the True North stamp set.

This is a small journal page…the pages in this book are 5.5 inches by 8 inches…a really nice size to work with!  After covering my page with gesso and drying it, I added some Prima Color Mist and misted it with water.  Next, I added the anchors with my stencil and some Archival Ink.  The sailboat and sentiment were stamped in black MFT Hybrid ink.  Then, using my Nestled Circles and some Distress Ink I added the feeling of waves/water.  And the final touch…a bit of Stabilo pencil smudged beneath the boat.

Dreaming of the Tropics

Ah, it’s that time of year when my mind heads south…LOL.  OK, you know what I mean…it’s winter here…on any given day it could be minus 20 or worse and by worse, I mean minus 40!!! Brrrr…
So decided to take a little vacation in my art journal:

Flowers…a must have in the tropics, right?  Sunshine, peeking through the lush vegetation.  Well, that’s where my mind has taken me.  Can you smell those glorious blooms?

It all started out with some layers of acrylic paints that I basically trowelled on with my spatula…wanted lots of texture.  Then I added some sprays of colors mists and some stenciling using two different ARTplorations stencils.  The flowers were added with stencils,  mists and Distress Inks. Just basically got lost in the process and had a lot of fun.

Don’t forget to check out our monthly Mixed Media Challenge right here!

I’ve used the following ARTplorations stencils to create my tropical paradise:

Birds and Circles

I’m back with another Stencil Sunday project for you today.

Would love to have you join us for the challenge this month.

Today, I’m sharing an art journal page.  I’ve used some Tim Holtz Tissue Wrap for my background and followed with some spray inks.  Using the ARTplorations Oh My Stars stencil and a PITT artist brush, I added some stars randomly in both the green and the orange. A few dribbles of India ink came next.  Then I added some circles with black gesso and different jar lids I keep in my stash.  I added some light modelling paste through the ARTplorations Bubbles stencil.  Next I used the ARTplorations Some Birds stencil and some Dylusions paint. Then, a few dabs of the same paint also added randomly.  Then, lots of shading/highlighting with a graphite pencil and my markers. I’ve used the Subway Art Builders:  Create stamp for the sentiments.  Just stamped the large sentiment on some heavy weight paper and cut it up to use throughout the two pages.
