Distress Oxide XOXO

Altenew June 19:18

Upgraded to an iMac after our PC died.  Just a bit of learning curve, but happy to try my first post with it.  Same with the built in photo editing…learning curve for sure, but so happy to be using my DSLR again!

Another card for Kathy Racoosin’s 30 Day Coloring Challenge. What I’ve totally enjoyed during these last 19 days is trying different mediums and how the mojo seems to flow when you keep playing.  And if you haven’t checked out the amazing inspiration on Instagram by the other people playing along, please do!

Three shades of Distress Oxides were used to ink up the Watercolor Dots background stamp from Altenew.  Then I heat embossed three different images from their Crown Bloom stamp set.  They were then watercolored using the same three Distress Oxide inks and die cut.  Sentiment is from the Watercolor Dots set.

Mr. & Mrs.

01133D28-75F8-4A7C-9BAA-9E7C46290E79My cousin asked me to make a card for his daughter’s wedding which is today.

Thought my jumping off point would be this gorgeous paper from the Simon Says Stamp June Card Kit. Looked through my stamps  for floral and leaf stamps with the same feel. Next I played with some of my Zig markers to approximate the colours. All were fussy cut.

The frame, flower and leaves were all heat embossed in silver, as was the sentiment. My usual smattering of sequins complete the card. Happy to have another card made for the 30 Day Coloring Challenge.

Dearest Friend

869A1CFF-EAB2-4A85-AA99-82AAAE145FDA.jpegSoft and dreamy colours for my card today. Still managing to keep up with the 30 Day Coloring Challenge. Yay me!

The background was made by smooshing three colours of Distress Inks on my craft mat, spritzing it with water and dragging my cardstock through it till all the colour was soaked up.

Next I heat embossed these gorgeous florals from Altenew in white. Then I added more colour with my Distress Markers and a damp paintbrush.

A simple heat embossed sentiment from the same set and my usual smattering of sequins/confetti complete the card.

In Sympathy

20118987-4DC7-4784-809F-EB608E04C284Another card for the 30 Day Coloring Challenge.

My “default” colouring medium is watercolours. It’s just what I gravitate toward. Today I’ve used Distress Inks.  No great detailed watercolouring today…just loosey goosey so to speak.

The background has been made with Altenew’s Dotted Scales Debossing Plate. Next I used one of their stencils to heat emboss a piece of white cardstock, and then die cut the frame.

The flowers, leaves and sentiment were all heat embossed in the same colour. Then I watercoloured the flowers and leaves with Distress Inks. Did you happen to see the cool sentiment design from Hero Arts?

For the final touch…a few gold seed beads to the centre of the flowers.

Beautiful Day

0409CB8B-300B-4C18-8343-3EA0F1061DD1This card has more layers than I usually like, but it works.

My Nuvo Shimmer Powders showed up today, so of course I wanted to play. After swatching them on some Bristol paper I wanted to see if they played nice with some black cardstock.

imageI chose three different stamps from Altenew’s Crown Bloom set and heat embossed each, die  cut them and then mixed up a bit of the powders with some water. Very little is needed…it’s highly concentrated and has such a lovely shimmer.

The background was made by stamping the leaf image repeatedly and adding a bit of washi tape. The sentiment was heat embossed on some black cardstock and I added a smattering if sequins for a pop of colour.

My photos will be different for a while. I’m using my camera for photos and editing as our PC is on its last legs…poor thing. Also using my camera to post to my blog.

Toni’s Birthday

A birthday card for my sweet cousin, Toni.

I’ve heat embossed the flowers from Altenew’s Persian Motifs in gold and then just loosely watercolored with some Distress Inks.  When it was dry I added some splashes of Peerless Transparent Gold watercolor.  This is a one layer card using Arches 140# cold pressed paper.

A simple sentiment from Altenew’s Superscript 2 and a smattering of fun iridescent white beads and sequins from Little Things from Lucy’s Cards.  That little heart is actually iridescent but shows up pink on my photo…one of those little things that make you go hmmm????

Canvas Flowers

I’m a Color Challenge Guest Designer over at Splitcoaststampers this month.  The colors this week are Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Soft Suede; and for dessert…make a “thank you” or “Thanksgiving themed card.

Played with some canvas resist fabric from Prima today.  I first stamped the Penny Black “Charming” image in black archival ink and dried it with my heat gun.  Then I added color with Prima Berry Wine Color Bloom, as well as Peeled Paint and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks.  Again, I dried that thoroughly with my heat gun.  Next, the edges were distressed with a distressing tool and more ink and I added bits of Peeled Paint Distress Stickles to the leaves.

The sentiment was stamped in archival ink onto some tissue paper and adhered to the card with some matte gel medium.  I left some of the edges lifted to add to the “distressed” feel of the card.
