Loll’s Tag Event

Loll's-Tag-Event

So happy to be able to make a tag for my lovely friend Loll’s annual tag event.  Each and every year she invites some friends to design a mixed media tag and then she makes a tag inspired by each one.  Here’s the link to her event:  Loll’s Twelve Tags of Christmas

When I sit down to design a card or a tag, there are very few preconceived notions as to where I’m headed.  I simply grab what I feel like working with that particular day and go with it.

The Christmas Rose Bouquet image from WPlus9 was heat embossed in gold on a black tag.  Next I used my Distress Oxides with a waterbrush to paint the image.  Once that was completely dry, I added more colour with my Polychromos pencils.

The background was a combination of a spritz of Perfect Pearls Mists in Heirloom Gold, smudges of glue stick (yes, you read that right), smudges of white ink, and smudges of Tarnished Brass Distress Crayon.

I completed the tag with a bit of gold washi tape and some gold cording.

Many thanks to Loll for putting on her fabulous event each and every year!

Happy Holidays

Happy-Holidays

In the spirit of using up some of my card stock, another card on coloured card stock today.

This WPlus9 set is so versatile…it’s called Holiday Boughs.

I stamped and heat embossed the background in white using a variation of the different boughs and pinecones.  Then the sentiment was heat embossed in gold on vellum.  I obviously need a different gold embossing powder with a finer texture, but went with what I had.

A few of Tim’s stars and that’s it.  A really simple card to make.  I have lots of ideas running through my head on what to do next with this set…stay tuned!

Mixed Media, Mixed Metals

Mixed-Media-Mixed-Metals

Had some fun today with my Distress Oxides and Polychromos pencils.

The Christmas Rose Bouquet image from WPlus9 was heat embossed with Liquid Platinum embossing powder.  Then, using my waterbrush and Distress Oxides I started colouring the image.  Once it was completely dry, I started adding more color with my Polychromos pencils.

More heat embossing on a piece of vellum with a sentiment from WPlus9 called Handlettered Holiday.  Then lots of bling…sequins, beads (see the center of the main flower), and some Tim Holtz Design Tape called Tidings.

Blingety, bling, bling today.  But hey, it’s a Christmas card!

Tim’s Snowflakes

Tim's-Snowflakes

Hello all!

Today is all about simplicity and Tim 🙂

I’ve heat embossed the snowflakes in Hero Arts white embossing powder.  They are from a new set from Tim Holtz called Mini Swirly Snowflakes.

Then it was play time with my Distress Oxides. The colours used today are Faded Jeans, Broken China and Peeled Paint.  Just kept rubbing an ink pad on my craft mat, spraying it with a bit of water and dipping my watercolour paper through it.  Each layer was dried with my heat tool before I added the next.  Just love the soft dreamy sort of feel from these colours!

For the finishing touches, a bit of Tim’s tape and some of Lucy’s Little Things for sparkle.

Polychromos Poinsettia

Polychromos-Poinsettia

Well, isn’t that title a mouthful?  LOL

I’ve seen some gorgeous designs lately using dark card stock and either gouache, which I don’t have, or pencils.  Pencils it is, since I don’t own any gouache paints (yet).

The poinsettia was heat embossed in black.  Yes, I know.  I seem to be obsessed that with poinsettia image.  But, as you can see, there are so many options for working with it.

Simple coloring with my Polychromos pencils, a bit of washi across the bottom and some letters I found in one of my embellishment drawers (don’t ask!).  To finish it off, I’ve used some Distress Stickles for the center.

Merry Making – Day 5

Merry-Making---Day-5

My final piece of homework for the Merry Making class.

Again, there were lots of wonderful instructions.  Day 5 was all about working with watercolor.  I chose to play with the ideas from Debby Hughes.  Oh, that girl is so amazing!

As always, I sort of go my own way, but used some of her fantastic ideas.

There are so many thoughts popping around in my head for cards, thanks to this class.  And that’s a good thing because before you know it those Christmas cards need to get in the mail!

Merry Making – Day 4

Merry-Making---Day-4

As with each and every day this week, so many wonderful ideas.  Today I chose to follow the wonderful Julie Ebersole’s lead.   Julie has such a clean, amazing sense of design!

So while I followed her basic idea, I made it my own by stamping the images from the Penny Black Festive Florals and watercoloring the background making sort of a tapestry look.  A few of Tim’s stars and done!
