Over at Splitcoast Stampers it’s the start of the annual Hope You Can Cling To challenges.  All the information for the challenges can be accessed by clicking on the pink blinkie in the right-hand column of my blog.  It’s such a worthwhile cause and very near and dear to my heart as I lost my mom and several family members and a former co-worker to breast cancer.

Our challenge today…show us what you’re made of.  In other words, Lydia wants us to demonstrate what our style is.  Honestly, I love doing so many different kinds of cards…CAS, vintage, black and white, lots of colors…it’s all good in this stamper’s mind!  I do love making my own paper and this card showcases some of my home made paper.

The background has been made by taking the harlequin template doing the embossed resist technique, but before I actually heat set the embossing powder, I brushed it off here and there for a more distressed sort of look.  Once it was heat set, I placed the punchinella template over top and started inking, spritzing with water, inking some more, added a few streaks of metallic distress ink and finally heat set it.  Next, the edges were all distressed (another favorite of mine) and inked.

The bird on the branch and sentiment were stamped in Ranger Archival Ink.  Next I added a little charm and pin with a “nest” of hand dyed ribbon (yet another favorite thing of mine to do).  The charm and pin have been inked with Distress Stains.

The panel was mounted on some black card stock and added to the card base.

Would you like to see the inside?

It’s simply the edge of my hand made paper stamped with the same bird image.  Lots of space for a hand-written message.

Here’s what I used:
Paper:  Gina K. heavyweight card stock, SU! Pool Party, SU! Basic Black
Ink:  Distress Inks in Broken China, Bundled Sage, Tumbled Glass,  and Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink
Stamps:  Tim Holtz Urban Tapestry and Tim Holtz Stuff to Say
All the other stuff:  TCW Mini Punchinella template, TCW Harlequin template, Pewter Metallic Distress Stain, Walnut Distress Stain, , Bundled Sage Distress Stain, Tumbled Glass Distress Stain, Broken China Distress Stain, clear embossing powder, heat gun, sponges, painter’s tape, Tim Holtz pin, brad and charm, Hug Snug seam binding, Jody booster, distressing tool

This card will be headed to Houston to the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Thanks for joining me today my friends!  Have a marvelous Monday!
