Layered Tree Sparkle

Over at Splitcoast today…the Inspiration Challenge. Stef found a wonderful artist on Etsy called Singing Cat Studio. My inspiration for this card came from this bead. I went with deeper shades of plum and blue though.

My card base is a standard A2 in SU Rich Razzleberry. It’s topped with a layer of SU Basic Black. Next comes a layer comprised of two different designer papers from Memory Box. The paper on the right has been sponged just a tiny bit to bring more of the Razzleberry color in and I added a little dot with a Gelly Roll Stardust pen to the center of each snowflake for a little more bling.

The tree has been made by cutting two full die cuts of the tree – one in Rich Razzleberry and one in Pacific Point. Next they were both run through my Big Shot Pro with an embossing folder. Then, there are perforated areas on the tree once it’s been cut. I cut different layers along the perforations.

Then the raised parts were lightly sanded with a sanding block and touched with black ink. Next I heat set the black ink. This is really important! If you don’t heat set the black ink really well and let it dry completely, you’ll contaminate your Versamark pad. That’s the next step…I inked all the pieces with my Versamark pad and embossed them with SU Iridescent Ice.

Next the tree was re-assembled using lots of dimensionals so that the edges are more prominent. As I was building the tree I attached the rhinestone swirl and the sentiment banner tucking it under the one layer before continuing on to finish the tree.

The sentiment banner has been cut with the same designer papers, stamped and then inked with the Razzleberry ink. Three more rhinestones are the only other embellishment on the card.

Paper: SU Rich Razzlberry, Basic Black and Memory Box Dewfrost
Ink: Versamark, Versafine Onyx Black, and SU Rich Razzleberry
Stamp: Stampavie Peace on Earth
Accessories: Big Shot Pro, Sizzix Triad Leaves embossing folder, Sizzix Christmas Tree #2, Spellbinders Nested Pennants, Recollections rhinestones and swirl, SU Iridescent Ice embossing powder, heat gun, paper snips, sanding block, crafting tweezers, dimensionals, Gelly Roll Stardust pen, sponge, ATG

Have a super Saturday everyone!

  1. Hi,

This is Kim from Singing Cat Studio. I can't believe how you took inspiration from one of my beads and made this beautiful card! I love the layering of the tree, and the colors are beautiful. All of your work is wonderful. I'll have to pick one of your pieces and make a bead inspired from you work.
